The wonderful benefits of honey

Honey has been used as a sweetener and thought to have health benefits for millenia. Most of us know about the benefits of high UMF honey in wound healing and internally. In NZ, we are fortunate because bees are not allowed to be fed antibiotics like they are in some countries. It is also raw so it's full of the wonderful therapeutic benefits from the bees.

For me, it is the beginning of the beekeeping season and the bees are already doing their best. I find them so fascinating and enjoy watching them.

Remember to make sure you only use raw honey because once heated above 46 degrees Celsius it creates toxins.

🐝A teaspoon of raw local honey a day may help hay fever sufferers to reduce their allergy load. It contains small amounts of pollens and these may help to desensitise people to the local pollens. I find it does help me.

🐝All raw honey may help with wound healing. It seals the wound preventing pathogens entering and may speed up recovery. High UMF manuka honey is used in hospitals and has been shown to heal wounds faster, including those with bacterial strains that are antibiotic resistant.

🐝For sunburn, honey may be a sticky way to reduce the sting from the burn, I kid you not. Leave it on overnight with your pjs on over top and some of the pain may reduce overnight. Yes, I've had to do this myself now and again.

🐝 34 honey studies have been reviewed and it has been shown to have a positive effect on brain health. It has been proven to give the memory a boost, have neuroprotective and anti-stress effects along with possible analgesic benefits.
