Herbs for teas
So many clients ask me about herbal teas and what I would recommend for them. Everyone's taste buds are different and how we feel after drinking them may be different for everyone too. I have some favourites as I'm sure you can imagine. There are some brands that I recommend too, like Artemis and Heke's Herbals.
🌱I think my fave is lemon verbena. The smell is divine, like it's tangible enough to eat! I have 2 small plants in my garden (the bees love the flowers too) so I am able to harvest the leaves over the warmer months. It is deciduous in Canterbury. This has relaxation properties.
🌱Chamomile is one that many people like to drink at night before bed as they feel it helps them sleep more deeply and may aid digestion. It's a love it or hate it tea. some people think it tastes like grass, while others love sitting down and winding down with this.
🌱Hibiscus has the most glorious deep red colour and it has an affinity with the blood and cardiovascular system. It tastes slightly astringent (think slight pucker of mouth). Delicious!
🌱Peppermint is a tea I think of as great for the digestion and nice to relax with. It's minty taste is very cooling and I drink it on hot days to cool down (it promotes sweating).
🌱Tulsi or Holy basil is an adaptogenic (stress lowering) tea. I drink some daily. I even grew it over summer and it has a yummy spicy herby taste.
🌱Thyme is a wonderful herb to drink in a tea, adding a little honey as it has cooled. This may be great immune support when you're feeling under the weather.
So many of these teas are from herbs that are easily grown in your garden or in pots if you're short on space.
